Sustainability means future viability.
Our credo: Responsible business practices, environmentally conscious actions, social impact—with vision and attitude. As a family business now in its sixth generation, it is a matter close to our hearts to use our entrepreneurial activities to create the best possible prospects for future generations. To this end, we are committed to our sustainability strategy, which is based on three pillars: environment, society, and economy. Because we know that every project we undertake together with our customers and employees is also an investment in the future of future generations.
We are steering toward a green future with wind and water – worldwide.
We provide tailwinds for the environment: Through our products for the maritime industry and wind power, we are inextricably linked to wind and water – which is why we work every day with expertise and passion to develop environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions.
With our spinners and nacelles for the wind power industry, we have been supporting the energy transition since 1995 – in Germany and around the world. Our ships and boats have also been relying on alternative propulsion concepts for many years: in 2015, the HELGOLAND ferry was the first new ship in Germany to be powered by LNG – and the UTHÖRN was the first ship in Germany to be powered by methanol.
New projects such as the RÜGEN LNG multi-purpose vessel for customs, which will be delivered in 2025, or climate-friendly research vessels such as the METEOR IV or the pioneering WALTHER HERWIG make us pioneers in climate-friendly shipping.

Climate neutral by 2035
Our goal: to become a climate-neutral company by 2035 – with a holistic and tailor-made strategy. To this end, we are implementing a wide range of measures – from the use of green electricity and energy-saving measures to increasingly efficient technologies – and are continuously expanding these. We are also aligning our product portfolio with the goals of climate neutrality through continuous new developments.

and the people who live here.
As a company with deep regional roots, still based where it was founded in 1850, the people in the region are important to us: our neighbors, our employees, partners, and customers, their families, and friends. That is why we are committed to our home — and protect it.
-
Commitment to the people of the region
Shaping opportunities – for today and tomorrow.
Training, education and secure jobs are key to a strong and vibrant region. That’s why we invest in people – in young talent, experienced professionals and everyone who wants to help us shape a better maritime future.
With apprenticeships, dual study programs, continuous learning through the Fassmer Academy and attractive working conditions, we create long-term career prospects – right here in our region. We want people not only to work here, but to stay – with their families, ideas and drive.
Because if you want to take responsibility for the future, there’s no better place to start than your own community. -
Support for associations
Making a difference – together.
Whether in sports, culture or social work – where people give their time, community thrives. We support this commitment with donations, partnerships and hands-on help.
We actively support local clubs and initiatives that bring people together. As a company deeply rooted in the region, we believe it’s our duty to get involved – where community spirit happens: in clubs, in volunteer work, and through direct engagement.
What drives us? The belief that business success should always go hand in hand with social responsibility – sincerely, effectively and close to home. -
Education and science
Sharing knowledge. Shaping the future.
Research and technology are at the core of what we do – and a driving force for progress. That’s why we support education and science: through partnerships with schools and universities, by backing research initiatives and by sparking curiosity for maritime innovation.
Our goal is to inspire the next generation, encourage knowledge exchange and help shape the innovations of tomorrow.
We also support humanitarian organizations that empower people through education, aid and long-term opportunities – in our region and around the world. Because for us, responsibility doesn’t stop at the shipyard gate.
We operate sustainably – for a future worth living.
For us, sustainable business practices mean, on the one hand, that we adhere to the highest ethical principles in our work. That is why we also require our suppliers to comply with human rights, labor standards, and environmental protection—just as we require our employees to treat each other and our stakeholders with respect.
For us, sustainable business also means being solidly positioned and future-proof as a company and as an industry. As a member of the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM), we are committed to promoting exchange within the maritime industry and successfully shaping Germany as a business location. The international competitiveness and job security of the German shipbuilding industry are particularly important to us.
Finally, we stand for economically sustainable and successful projects in the fields of shipbuilding, boat building, defense, and composites—with products that are so technologically innovative and sophisticated that they guarantee a long service life and operational period. For the sustainable success of our customers.
